The heart is the big feature for Valentine’s Day. Cards all have pictures of red hearts and there is no mistaking the connection with love and the heart! And it is true – when we are “in love” or feeling warm emotions of giving and receiving it is good for the physical heart.
The HeartMath Institute has researched many aspects of the effect of warm feelings which engage what is called the parasympathetic system and helps us to feel good and be healthier. When we experience stress or anger our sympathetic nervous system is activated - this is the more primitive fight or flight system. If that situation continues for too long the stress can wreak havoc on the body.
So feeling loving on Valentine’s Day is definitely good for you. Too many chocolates or glasses of fizz however are probably not a good idea!
Not just romantic love - do what you enjoy
Valentine’s Day has become very commercialised with the emphasis on romantic partners. But the more your heart is engaged in life the better it is for your physical health.
The mind and the body are connected. Love of children, of pets, of where you live, all have a part to play. Enjoying activities like walking in the sunshine, or having friends round for a meal or following an interest give you the double whammy of immediate enjoyment and a boost for your health.
Find your own path to health - avoiding what is not to love
There is so much contradictory information about health in the media it can be confusing. One aspect which has not received a lot of attention is the importance of reducing toxins from your environment. There are all kinds of nasties hidden in plain sight in everyday life. From skincare to candles, washing powder to non-stick pans. Many of these contain toxins which could cause long term. They are definitely things you do not want to love. In many cases they can look harmless.
And I have found very few of my clients know about them.
That is why I made the removal of toxins part of my course "Live Happier Live Longer" Over 6 weeks we look at all aspects of health including nutrition, hormones, stress and toxins and you get easy small actions which add up to making a big difference.
Most importantly it is enjoyable because as I said before the more you enjoy your life, the better for your heart!
